AGC Pediatrics, LLC is closely following updates as posted by the Center for Disease Control (CDC), World Health Organization (WHO), and the American Academy for Pediatrics (AAP) about the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19).
What is Coronavirus COVID19?
A specific virus belonging to a family of viruses called coronavirus, which are mostly known to cause common colds. This specific virus can make people sicker than the common cold.
What are the symptoms of Coronavirus COVID19?
Most common are fever, dry cough, and fatigue. Some patients also report runny nose, sore throat, and/or diarrhea. More severe cases involve respiratory distress/breathing difficulties.
Should I be concerned that my child has Coronavirus COVID19?
Only if your child has traveled to an area where there is currently a large outbreak such as China, South Korea, Iran, Italy or if your child has these symptoms and a known contact with Coronavirus COVID19 infection.
How does this virus spread?
Mostly through respiratory droplets from coughing or sneezing. It may be possible to catch the virus by touching surfaces where the virus is located.
What can I do to prevent the spread of the virus?
Wash your hands for at least 20 seconds with soap and water. Teach your child to cough into his or her elbow. Wipe down surfaces within your home with household cleaning supplies.
Does the virus affect children differently?
No, children who have the virus have shown mild symptoms in our limited available data.
Should I come into AGC if I am concerned my child has this virus?
Your best course of action is to keep your child at home and call our office at 706-625-5900. If it seems likely your child has this virus, we will contact your County Health Department for the next steps.
